A Chinese startup has developed artificial lips for long-distance kissing controlled via a smartphone app.

A Chinese startup, “inspired” by the coronavirus pandemic, has invented a very unusual gadget – a robot for kissing at a distance.

What it is

In fact, these are soft silicone lips that connect to a smartphone. Some lips remain with you, the second – with the person you want to kiss. Next, both need to install an application with which the lips will repeat the movements “at the other end of the wire.” The gadget was named MUA in honor of the sound people make when they kiss.

According to the inventor, he dated a girl during the pandemic, but could not see her due to strict restrictions in China. Then he came up with the idea to create a device for remote kissing.

To make everything look realistic, silicone lips are soft to the touch, and get a little warm during the kiss. Users who have already tested MUA most of all complain about the lack of language – the device has only lips.

The product costs about $40. Within two weeks of its release, the firm had sold over 3,000 kissing machines and received about 20,000 orders.

By the way, this idea is not new. For example, researchers at the Tokyo University of Electrical Communications invented the “kiss transfer machine” in 2011, and the Malaysian Imagination Institute created a similar gadget called “Kissinger” in 2016. A similar gadget was also featured in The Big Bang Theory. In case you forgot that epic kiss between Howard and Raj, here it is:
