Apple to Pay Million to MacBook Owners for Butterfly Keyboard Issues

Recently in the United States, the court approved a settlement agreement on a class action lawsuit against Apple Inc. Now the company has to pay $50 million to owners of MacBook laptops.

What does it mean

This lawsuit has been going on for several years. The lead plaintiffs in the class-action lawsuit were 11 users from New York, Florida, California, Michigan and several other states of America. Consumer protection lawsuit: Apple was accused of not providing sufficient repair or troubleshooting assistance for butterfly keyboards. They were installed in MacBooks manufactured between 2015 and 2019.

Probably, many have heard user complaints or even personally encountered this problem: over time, the keyboard keys began to “stick” and work incorrectly due to small debris and dust that got inside. Most laptop owners have had to repair the keyboard at their own expense or even buy a new device.

Lawyers for the plaintiffs announced the deal a year ago. Apple agreed to pay a total of $50 million. As of the beginning of March, more than 86,000 applications for payments have been submitted. The amount of compensation is from 50 to 395 dollars.

The plaintiffs’ two lead lawyers at Girard Sharp and Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith said in a statement that they “look forward to transferring money to clients.”
