Some users have complained that their camera has stopped working in the Zoom app, while some users have said that their camera shows a black screen when using the Zoom app. If the same thing is happening to you, you can try the solutions in this article in no particular order and see if they help.

Why is my camera not working with Zoom?

Your camera will not work with Zoom if you have disabled access to it. Windows 11/10 has a feature that allows users to choose which apps can use the camera and which can’t. To resolve this issue, check if you have shared your camera with Zoom. Another reason for this issue is outdated or corrupted camera drivers. In this article, we have explained the solutions to get rid of this problem.

Camera not working in Zoom on Windows 11/10

Users who have camera not working in Zoom can try the following solutions to get rid of the problem:

  1. Check if you have allowed Zoom to access your camera
  2. Check if you have selected the correct camera in Zoom
  3. Change video settings in Zoom
  4. Roll back the camera driver
  5. Update or reinstall the camera driver

Let’s look at these solutions in detail.

1]Check if you have allowed Zoom to access your camera.

In Windows 11/10 operating systems, it is possible to block access to the camera for selected applications. If you block camera access for certain apps, those apps will no longer be able to use your camera. Therefore, if your camera is not working in Zoom, you should first check camera access for the Zoom app.

The steps to verify camera access for Zoom are different for Windows 11 and Windows 10 computers. Below, we have explained the instructions for both Windows 11 and Windows 10 separately.

Windows 11

Windows 11 users should follow the instructions below:

  1. Right click on start menu and choose Settings.
  2. To choose Privacy & Security From the left side.
  3. Scroll down the “Privacy and Security” page until you find App permissions.
  4. Now click Camera and enable the button next to camera access (available in the upper right corner).
  5. Scroll down and turn on the toggle next to the Zoom app. If the Zoom app is listed Let desktop apps access your camera, turn on the toggle switch next to it (see screenshot above).

Windows 10

Allow Access to Zoom Camera Windows 10

If you are a Windows 10 user, follow the instructions below:

  1. Open Settings and select privacy.
  2. Select Camera From the left side.
  3. Turn on Allow apps to access your camera. Scroll down and see Zoom Meetings indicated there. If yes, enable the button next to it.
  4. Now scroll down and turn on Allow desktop apps to access your camera.

Now check if you can use the camera.

2]Check if you have selected the correct camera in Zoom.

If you’ve connected an external webcam to your laptop, it must be selected in Zoom or you won’t be able to use the camera during Zoom meetings.

The following steps will help you with this:

  1. Launch the Zoom app and select Settings.
  2. Select video from the left panel.
  3. Now click on Camera and select an external camera. Zoom will then turn on your camera to show you a preview.

If this doesn’t work, try the following fixes.

3]Change video settings in Zoom.

If you still have a problem despite allowing the Zoom app to access your camera, change your Zoom video settings and see if that helps.

Change Video Settings in the Zoom App

Do the following:

  1. Launch the Zoom app.
  2. Click on Settings in the top right corner and select video from the left panel.
  3. Now click Advanced.
  4. To choose Media Foundation v Video Capturing Method.
  5. Close the Zoom app and relaunch it.

Now check if the problem is fixed.

3]Roll back the camera driver.

Some users say that rolling back their camera drivers helped them resolve the issue. You can also try this fix. See if the Roll Back Driver option is available in Device Manager. If so, roll back the camera driver.

Do the following:

  1. Run Run clicking Win+Rc and type devmgmt.msc. Click OK.
  2. v device manager, expand cameras node.
  3. Right click the camera driver and select Properties.
  4. Select driver and see if the rollback button is clickable or not. If yes, click on it to roll back the driver.

If rolling back the driver does not resolve the issue, update and reinstall the camera driver. We have explained it in the following solution.

4]Update or reinstall the camera driver.

If the solutions above don’t solve your problem, your camera driver might be corrupted. In such a case, updating or reinstalling the camera driver may solve the problem.

The following instructions will help you update your camera driver:

  1. Right click on start menu and choose device manager.
  2. Expand cameras node.
  3. Right click the camera driver and select update driver.
  4. Now select Search automatically for drivers option.

Wait while Windows installs the latest camera driver. After updating the driver, check if the camera is working in Zoom or not.

If the problem persists, we suggest that you download the latest camera driver from the manufacturer’s website and then install it on your system.

How to make the Zoom camera work?

You can test your camera before joining or starting a Zoom meeting. To test your camera, launch the Zoom app and open its settings. Now select video on the left side and then click on Camera to select a camera. Zoom will then turn on your camera to show you a preview.

If you see a preview after selecting a camera, your camera is working fine. If your Zoom camera is not working after following the above steps, try the solutions we explained above in this article.

Hope this helps.
