ChatGPT Successfully Passed the MBA Exam

Artificial intelligence will reduce the “value of education”

University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business professor Christian Tervish decided to see if the popular ChatGPT bot would be able to master the prestigious school’s business course program.

The experiment was a success. The chatbot has successfully passed the exams in a typical MBA core course in Operations Management.

According to Tervish, the chatbot “did an excellent job with the basic questions of operations management and process analysis, including those based on case studies.” However, the chatbot had many shortcomings, due to which the artificial intelligence bot was still unable to answer “more complex questions of process analysis.”

The professor also noted that ChatGPT “would have gotten a B to B- on the exam.”

Professor Tervish praised the potential of ChatGPT and compared its impact on academia to the advent of electronic calculators that revolutionized the corporate world.

“Before the advent of calculators and other computing devices, many firms hired hundreds of employees whose task was to manually perform mathematical operations. such as multiplication or matrix inversion. Obviously, such tasks are now automated and the value of the skills associated with them has dropped dramatically. Similarly, any automation of the skills taught in our MBA programs has the potential to reduce the value of an MBA education. “, – said the professor.

Andrew Karolyi, dean of the SC Johnson College of Business at Cornell University, agrees. “One thing we know for sure: ChatGPT is not going anywhere. Anyway, these artificial intelligence methods will keep getting better and better. Faculty and university administrations need to invest in their own education,” Károlyi told the Financial Times.

ChatGPT is “only in its infancy,” billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban said in an interview with Not a Bot, an AI newsletter. He added: “Imagine what GPT 10 will look like.”

In addition to this statement, it’s worth noting that software giant Microsoft is planning an additional $10 billion investment in ChatGPT’s developer OpenAI, after an initial $1 billion investment made a few years ago.

Alphabet, Google’s parent company, is also investing resources in similar tools to address a problem the company says threatens its search engine dominance.
