Fix Login_hint is duplicated error in Microsoft Teams

If you see the ‘login_hint is duplicated‘ prompt with error code AADSTS9000411 while signing into the Teams desktop client, close the window with the error message and then enlarge the app window to its maximum width and height. Now click on the signing out link, restart your computer, and then try. If the error persists, use the following solutions to fix the issue:

  1. Remove Teams information from Windows Credential Manager
  2. Clear Microsoft Teams cache
  3. Reset the Teams app
  4. Perform a Clean Install of the Teams app

These solutions may take a while to fix the issue. If you don’t have time, you can always use the web version of Teams for online collaborations and meetings.

Let us now see the above solutions in detail.

1] Remove Teams information from Windows Credential Manager

Clearing Microsoft Teams data from Windows Credential Manager

Windows 11/10 comes with a built-in Password Manager app known as Credential Manager. This app stores usernames, passwords, and other sensitive information, which can be used by relevant websites and apps on a local computer or other computers within the same network environment during the sign-in process. If you’re getting the ‘login_hint is duplicated’ error while trying to sign in with Teams client, chances are, there may be a corrupt entry in Windows Credential Manager which is preventing you from using the app. Remove Microsoft Teams login details from the app and see if it helps.

  1. Click on the Windows Search bar and type ‘credential’.
  2. Click on Credential Manager in the search results.
  3. Click on the Windows Credentials tab to view installed apps’ information.
  4. Expand Microsoft Office/Teams section by clicking on the down arrow button.
  5. Click on Remove.
  6. Click Yes to confirm the action.

Now try signing in to Microsoft Teams from scratch. This will hopefully resolve the issue.

2] Clear Microsoft Teams cache

Clearing Microsoft Teams cache

If the above solution didn’t work, clear the cache data of Microsoft Teams. Nearly all apps maintain their caches (temporary data that helps the app load faster) which may get corrupted over time. Clearing the cache files may help resolve many issues, including sign-in issues with apps.

Microsoft Teams cache files are located at the following path:

%appdata%MicrosoftTeams

Close the Teams app and navigate to the above path (open File Explorer and paste the path in its address bar).

Delete the entire content of the Teams folder and reboot your PC. Now launch the Teams app and see if the issue is fixed.

Note: Your Teams data must be synced to the cloud (OneDrive for Business) for maintaining the cache. If you’ve not synced your data, you will probably not be able to locate the Teams folder within File Explorer.

3] Reset the Teams app

Repairing Microsoft Teams app

Next, reset Microsoft Teams and see if it helps. Windows 11/10 offers built-in options to repair/reset the installed apps. You can use these options if the apps are not functioning properly on your Windows 11/10 PC.

  1. Click on the Start button in your Windows taskbar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click on Apps on the left panel.
  4. Click on Installed Apps on the right panel.
  5. Type ‘teams’ in the search bar on top.
  6. Click on the more options icon (three horizontal bars) next to Microsoft Teams and select Advanced options from the available dropdown.
  7. Scroll down to the Reset section.
  8. Click on the Repair button.
  9. Try again signing in to the Teams app.
  10. If the issue persists, repeat steps 1-7 and click on the Reset button.
  11. Now again try signing in to Microsoft Teams and see if the issue is fixed.

4] Perform a Clean Install of Teams

If nothing seems to work, perform a clean install of Microsoft Teams.

  • Open Settings.
  • Click on Apps  > Installed Apps on the right panel.
  • Locate Teams > More options and select Advanced options from the available dropdown.
  • Click on Uninstall to confirm your action.
  • Remove leftover files to completely uninstall Teams from your computer.
  • Download the latest version of Teams client from Microsoft.
  • Install Microsoft Teams.
  • Reboot your PC.
  • Sign in and start using Microsoft Teams.

Hope something helps!
