Fraudsters began to deceive people using a refund scheme for purchases in online stores, Sber’s press service reported on March 23.

It turns out that the attackers return the funds to the customers of the store who have recently received an order. Then a message arrives, ostensibly from a representative of the store, with a request to send the money back, since the return was made in error. The “employee” provides the details for the transfer, and if the client sends money, it will end up in the wallet of the scammers, the bank warned in Telegram.

Sberbank also indicated that, in fact, scammers hack into the personal account of an online store user, return funds and try to get money, under the pretext of “return by mistake.”

To prevent such situations, Sberbank advises not to enter into a dialogue with a person who introduced himself as a store employee, use complex passwords and set up two-factor authentication in applications that support this feature.
