Gen-4 Prosperity I sets world eVTOL air taxi distance record

Autoflight on its way to certifying its Gen-4 Prosperity I electric flying taxi has announced a new milestone. Her electric aircraft was able to set a world distance record in this category.

What is known

In mid-summer 2021, a Joby Aviation aircraft set the record for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxis. He was able to fly 240 km without recharging. The record stood for less than two years.

Autoflight announced that the Gen-4 Prosperity I air taxi has successfully completed the world’s longest flight. The flight was made at a distance of 250.64 km. Thus, the electric flight flew 10.64 km more than the previous record holder.

The company introduced an air taxi in 2022. The new Gen-4 Prosperity I variant differs significantly from the model that debuted last year. It is equipped with ten engines and has massive beams. The disadvantage of the design is that the lift screws always remain in a horizontal orientation, which degrades aerodynamics during flight.

Autoflight is working on the Gen-4 Prosperity I in Germany. The air taxi can accommodate four passengers. The company hopes to be certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) by 2025 to begin commercial use of air taxis.
