Popular cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com confirmed the fact of a cyber attack, as a result of which almost 500 accounts were hacked.
About the Crypto.com hacker attack wrote on the official blog. The exchange said that due to the hack, the attackers gained access to 483 accounts, as a result of which they were able to steal more than $31,000,000. The hackers withdrew $17,000,000 in Bitcoin and $14,000,000 in Ethereum. In other cryptocurrencies, approximately $66,000 was stolen.
After the cyber attack, Crypto.com temporarily stopped all transactions and moved the two-factor authentication system to a new architecture. At the same time, the exchange updated the rules of use, adding a clause stating that the first withdrawal of funds is possible only after 24 hours.
Crypto.com promises to compensate for losses up to $250,000. But for this, users must fulfill several conditions. In particular, activate multi-factor identification, create an anti-phishing code at least three weeks before an unauthorized withdrawal of funds, and file a law enforcement complaint.
