How to place live tiles on the Windows 11 desktop

Live Tiles, as a distinctive feature of Windows, never became popular. So when Microsoft didn’t implement this in Windows 11, the move didn’t come as a big surprise. But users who are still inclined to use this feature can check Live Tiles Anywhere… This will allow them to place live tiles right on the Windows desktop.

Live Tiles Anywhere is available as an app in the Microsoft Store and has one special feature – add square tiles containing an image or number to the Start menu. In addition, it can also show previews of notifications from apps. Let’s try running the Live Tiles Anywhere app and see how to create custom tiles in Windows 11 or Windows 10.

  1. Run the application.
  2. Go to the Custom Tiles tab.
  3. Enter the tile editor view to select the tile size.
  4. Add visual branding, background, color, text color, etc.
  5. Save your changes.
  6. Review your work.
  7. Pin tiles to the Start menu or create widgets for them.

An important feature of the Live Tiles Anywhere app is that it comes without ads or other paid add-ons. It’s completely free to use.

To create a custom tile, go to the CUSTOM TILES tab in the upper left corner of the app screen. Hit the Create a new custom tile button.

You will be immediately taken to the TILE EDITOR screen. Here under Visual image header, you can set one image and branding text so that it can be easily used across all tile sizes. Select Create automatically option or select Select a picture from your PC

For Icon, you can choose from the following values.

  • Create automatically.
  • Generate from default visual.
  • Select a picture from your PC.

Similarly, you can adjust the settings for Small Tile, Wide Tile, Large Tile, Medium Tile, and Large Tile as desired.

For any custom tile you create, you can add text in the lower left corner of the tile by going to Visual branding tab. It is located just below Visual image Title. Set the desired option for all tile sizes.

The Item to Execute feature adds a handy option to open an installed application or program / file / URL / protocol when executing a command.

Once you’ve created a tile, you can change its appearance by changing the color. Just select Tune click on the dropdown menu next to it, select a color from the color picker and generate a color from the visual. Click on Savewhen done!

Preview format

Now press Preview format the ability to preview the appearance.

Pin to menu

Go back to the CUSTOM TILES tab, right-click the tiles you want to pin to the Start menu and select Pint on the Start Menu option.

How to install live tiles in Windows 11

To be honest, for me, Live Tiles Anywhere now works well with Windows 11. As you can see in the image above, it simply adds tile-like application icons to the desktop screen. So, when you click on them, the corresponding application opens. However, it is fully compatible with Windows 10. We hope the developer will add support for Windows 11 soon. How do I access my widgets in Windows 11?

The easiest way to open widgets is to click on the widget icon in the taskbar (it looks like a rectangular box with a white and blue split screen). Another way is to press the Win + W keys. On laptops with touchscreens, widgets can be accessed by swiping from left to right.

What’s wrong with Windows tiles?

Unfortunately, the Live Tiles feature was removed from Windows with the release of Windows 11. In addition, its manufacturer, Microsoft, stopped updating them in Windows 10 shortly after dropping out of the Windows Mobile ecosystem.
