How to sort folders by month in Windows 11/10

Although the procedure for sorting files by size was simple, there is no direct way to sort files and folders by month or create/modify them. There is no option in advanced settings either. However, you can use the following workaround:

  1. Open the folder where you need to classify items by month.
  2. Press view and choose Details organize folder in Details.
  3. in date modifiedclick on the downward arrow associated with the word date modified.
  4. Now check the box associated with Select a date or date range.
  5. Click on month-year.
  6. This will collapse the calendar and show the months.
  7. Now select a month and all files will be changed in that month only.

The disadvantage of this method is that it is cumbersome, and also it does not show all files classified in created/modified month order. It only shows files modified in a particular month.

How to arrange files and folders in order of creation month and not month of change?

This change is easy. Just select the Created Date option instead of Modified Date and the rest of the procedure remains the same. Right-click on the Modified date option and select Advanced. Select “Created Date” from the list and click OK.
