Iranian drone attacks US military base - F-15E Strike Eagle fighters strike back

The United States has targeted targets in eastern Syria that belong to forces associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. It was a response to an attack on an American base in Syria.

What is known

The US strike came as a reaction to an Iranian-made kamikaze drone attacking a coalition force base in northeast Syria, resulting in the death of one soldier. Five more soldiers were wounded.

The United States retaliated with fourth-generation F-15E Strike Eagle fighters. The order was issued by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on behalf of US President Joe Biden. The head of the Pentagon stressed that Biden made it clear that the United States will take all measures to protect its people at any time and in any place. No group will attack US troops with impunity.

F-15E Strike Eagle attacked two sites associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Fighters fired 10 missiles. According to initial estimates, both targets were destroyed. This was announced by the representative of the US Air Force Pat Ryder. At the same time, he refused to clarify whether the air defense system works at the American base, where the kamikaze drone flew in.

Earlier, The New York Times, citing two US officials, reported that the air defense system was not fully operational at the time of the Iranian drone attack. The reason is not specified.
