Microsoft Teams Gets an Update with PC Communities, Designer Support and More Improvements

Microsoft continues to improve the free version of Teams for Windows 11 – the main innovation this time is support for communities and messages from Facebook and Discord. The update also brings support for Microsoft Designer, an artificial intelligence art tool that lets you create images for things like event invitations or social media posts using text cues.

Microsoft Teams Communities was first launched in December to provide a way for families, friends, small community groups, and businesses to organize meetings, calendars, and networking. They are Microsoft’s answer to what users can find on Facebook, Discord, WhatsApp, Reddit, and other grouping services. Previously, communities were only available on mobile devices, but now they are also available on Windows 11

“With Windows 11, community owners can create communities from scratch, share and invite members, create and host events, moderate content with mission-critical trust and security features, and be notified of all critical activity,” says Amit Fulay, VP president of Microsoft Teams.

The new version of Teams for Windows 11 will also have a preview version of Microsoft Designer. Designer can be a useful tool for communities to create event invites or even banners for their teams in Teams. It’s the same service that integrates with Microsoft Edge, combining some features like DALL-E and Adobe Express to create AI-powered basic images.
