New Microsoft Bing sometimes distorts found information

Search engines are on a new stage of their development with the beginning of the integration of artificial intelligence into them. Now you will not need to browse a bunch of sites to find the necessary information – it will be given to you in short (or not so) messages that will be generated by AI. However, here the question arises: how reliable is such a system?

Yesterday Microsoft announced its updated Bing search engine with built-in ChatGPT, which should significantly improve the user experience. While Microsoft has taken many precautions to ensure that Tay (a Twitter chatbot turned racist and misogynist) doesn’t repeat itself, the company does warn that some Bing search results could be bad. Here is what the company writes in response to common questions about Bing:

“Bing strives to keep answers interesting and truthful, but given that this is an early preview, it may still show unexpected or inaccurate results based on short web content, so please be reasonable. Sometimes Bing misrepresents the information it finds, and you may see answers that sound convincing but are incomplete, inaccurate, or inappropriate. Use your own judgment and carefully check the facts before making decisions or acting on Bing’s answers.”.

And these “errors” are easy to detect: the author of The Verge asked in Bing that Microsoft showed today and received a response that it showed a new Bing search engine with ChatGPT, which is true, and also added that Microsoft demonstrated the search engine’s capabilities for “celebrity parodies”, which was not usually the case.
