Northrop Grumman Delivers Fourth MQ-4C Triton Strategic Drone Worth Over 0 Million To US Navy

The US Navy received another MQ-4C Triton unmanned aerial vehicle. Northrop Grumman donated its fourth strategic drone to the service.

What is known

The MQ-4C Triton is a relatively new reconnaissance level drone. Northrop Grumman was able to put it into operation about five years ago. The exact price is unknown, but we can safely say that the cost is more than $100 million.

In fiscal year 2015, the production of one drone cost more than $180 million, including development. The entire program is estimated at about $13 billion. Triton’s operators are the Royal Australian Air Force and the US Navy.

Northrop Grumman said in a press release that the MQ-4C will provide unparalleled surveillance and defense capabilities for shipping lanes. The drone will be able to perform tasks while flying at an altitude of more than 17,000 meters.

The MQ-4C Triton is based on the RQ-4N Global Hawk strategic reconnaissance drone. The wingspan is almost 40 meters, the length is 14.5 meters, and the maximum take-off weight is more than 14,000 kg.

The drone is capable of carrying almost 1100 kg of payload on an external sling. The inner compartment holds approximately 150 kg more. The range of the MQ-4C Triton is about 3600 km, the flight duration is more than 24 hours, and the maximum speed is approximately 615 km/h.
