Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) has published a report on the foldable smartphone market in 2022. Samsung continues to lead with no chance for competitors.
What is known
In the reporting period, 3.1 million smartphones were delivered. Compared to the previous quarter, sales fell by 48%, and compared to the last quarter of 2021, by 26%. Despite this, shipments of foldable smartphones increased by 62% in 2022 to 12.9 million units.
Samsung continues to be the leader, leaving no chance for competitors, although its share has decreased to 83%. A year ago, the manufacturer occupied 96% of the market, and in the third quarter of 2022 – 86%. The most popular smartphone in the reporting period was the Samsung Galaxy Flip 4. Its share was 47%.
If we talk exclusively about foldable displays, then Samsung is also in the lead. The share of the South Korean manufacturer in comparison with the first quarter fell from 91% to 81%. In parallel with this, BOE increased its presence from 4% immediately to 17%.
