Tesla Gigafactory in Berlin has started producing 5,000 electric vehicles a week and wants to increase the volume by 4 times

By the end of the first quarter of 2023, Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory was able to reach the design volume of production of electric cars. It took almost a year since the start of deliveries.

What is known

At the end of 2021, Tesla launched the assembly of electric vehicles in the German capital. The production of the popular Model Y crossovers was launched at the Berlin plant. Vehicle deliveries began in April 2022. And now, almost a year later, Tesla reached the design volume.

The Gigafactory in Berlin is now capable of producing 5,000 electric cars a week. This means that 250,000 vehicles can roll off the assembly line in a year. Initially, Tesla intended to reach the design volume by the end of 2022. The deviation from the schedule is due to the delay in the supply of components.

Tesla wants to quadruple its car production. A corresponding request has already been filed by an American company. But for this it is necessary to expand production capacities. The current permit allows Tesla to produce 500,000 vehicles per year in Germany.
