The representative of Telegram called the accusations of the head of WhatsApp about the danger of the messenger a lie

Earlier, Will Cathcart recommended to stop using Telegram.

Remy Vaughn, a spokesman for Telegram, gave a comment to the media in which he responded to the accusations of the head of rival WhatsApp messenger Will Cathcart regarding the dangers of the messenger.

The head of WhatsApp in his accusations referred to an article by the American magazine Wired. According to the authors of this article, Russian security forces are likely to be able to read encrypted secret chats on Telegram. In addition, messenger developers can use standard tools to track user activity.

Vaughn said that the article in Wired contains many errors, and the editors did not take into account the comments and responses of Telegram, which in turn misled Cathcart. For example, the application does not have automatic user location tracking, such functionality can only be enabled manually and less than 0.01% of users have used this feature.

Remy Vaughn refuted another statement by Will Cathcart regarding the End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) protocol on Telegram. The head of WhatsApp said that this protocol has not been independently verified. However, the MTProto 2.0 protocol was previously tested at the University of Udine in Italy and found to be reliable.

On February 2, journalists from Wired published an investigation in which they claim that surveillance of users is possible through the Telegram API. Later, the head of WhatsApp, Will Cathcart, wrote on his Twitter account that Telegram does not guarantee end-to-end encryption user data and transfer it to third parties.

Previously Pavel Durov hard spoke out about whatsapp. He warned about a security issue in the WhatsApp messenger, due to which hackers can gain full access to the user’s personal data on the phone.
