The State Duma Committee on State Construction and Legislation in the first reading approved at a meeting on Monday a bill that provides for the confiscation of property obtained as a result of cybercrime.

Earlier, a group of deputies headed by the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Vasily Piskarev and Senator Andrey Klishas amended the Criminal Code to the State Duma, the Cabinet approved the draft, taking into account the comments.

Vasily Piskarev said that recently one can observe an increase in computer crime and fraud in the credit and financial sector, which leads to losses for citizens, especially the elderly.

In 2021, 6,354 crimes related to computer information were committed, as indicated in the data of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, including: illegal access to computer information, creation, use and distribution of malware, violation of the rules for storing, processing or transmitting computer information or information -telecommunication networks, illegal impact on the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation.

The draft was accepted with a positive response from the Cabinet of Ministers, but the government asks the authors to justify the need for the proposed changes and indicate specific examples of violations in the field of computer information that they have in mind.
