The US government is preparing another package of military assistance for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

What is known

This was reported by the Reuters news agency, citing two US officials. The new aid package will be worth $2.2 billion and will include equipment for Patriot air defense systems, precision-guided munitions, and Javelin man-portable air defense systems, officials said.

In addition, the United States will also provide Ukraine with long-range GLSDB (Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb) missiles for the HIMARS and M270 MLRS. With the help of them, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to hit targets at a distance of up to 150 km. The production of missiles is occupied by the American company Boeing together with the Swedish company SAAB. Each GLSDB projectile is a combination of an M26 unguided rocket and a GBU-39/B SDB airborne guided bomb that weighs approximately 115 kg. The GLSDB is propelled by the M26 rocket motor and then the GBU-39/B moves towards the target using the built-in GPS paired with an inertial navigation system.

GLSDB is planned to be transferred through the USAI fund, which allows the President of the United States to take weapons not from the stocks of the armed forces, but from industry.

The new military aid package is due to be announced this week.
