Tokyo police and Japanese companies are trained to fight computer terrorism

Tokyo Police Department wants to increase the vigilance of businesses against cyberattacks

On Monday, the Tokyo police and representatives of about 130 leading companies in Japan began large-scale practical exercises to develop technologies to combat computer terrorism. Approximately 5.5 thousand people take part in these exercises.

According to the Kyoto news agency, the exercise will continue until February 6 under the control of the cybersecurity center at the police in Tokyo. During the training, actions are being taken to detect viruses in computer systems that steal confidential information.

The Tokyo Police Department wants to increase the vigilance of businesses against cyberattacks on computers through training activities. They are based on scenarios where hackers infect a company’s computer system, encrypt data, and threaten to reveal it in the absence of a ransom.

During the initial part of the exercise, which was open to the press, participants checked suspicious emails, examined files uploaded to the company’s network, and approved procedures for interacting with the police.

According to the business newspaper Nikkei on January 22, the number of cyberattacks in Japan has doubled in the past 3 years. In 2019, the daily average level of unauthorized access attempts was 4.1 thousand, and in the first half of 2022 this figure increased to 7.7 thousand.
