US to invest .45 billion in capacity upgrades and double Javelin and GMLRS production

The US Department of Defense intends to significantly increase the production of high-precision GMLRS projectiles, which are used by the M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS missile systems. This was stated by the Deputy head of the Pentagon, Gabe Camarillo (Gabe Camarillo).

What is known

According to the official, the defense department plans to invest $1.45 billion in the modernization of production facilities. More than a quarter of this amount will be spent on the installation of new lines, the purchase of equipment and wages. In total, the Pentagon is ready to allocate over $2 billion to finance facilities that are involved in the production of shells.

Within 5 years, the US Department of Defense hopes to produce six times as many 155mm artillery shells. Until the end of this year, 24,000 ammunition will roll off the assembly line every month instead of 20,000 units.

Production of GMLRS precision-guided missiles for the M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS will double by 2026 (from 566 to 1110 per month). In addition, the US Army wants to receive 330 missiles and 41 Javelin launchers monthly (+100%).

The funding will be part of a 15-year plan to modernize state-owned arms and ammunition manufacturing facilities. A total of $18 billion will be allocated for its implementation.
