In Russia, they propose to strengthen control over VPN services, and also warn that resources whose owners refuse to cooperate with domestic intelligence services may be blocked in the country. Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Andrey Svintsov, said this in an interview with the radio station “Moscow speaking”. According to him, most companies providing services are already interacting with Russian intelligence services. In the conditions of a hybrid armed conflict between Russia and NATO, Svintsov considers it necessary to secure the information infrastructure as much as possible.

Earlier, a member of the Russian Civic Chamber, Alexander Malkevich, explained the need to create a domestic VPN service, since foreign resources have repeatedly demonstrated themselves from a disadvantageous side, while a domestic VPN can meet high standards, comply with the law and guarantee user safety.

The head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, noted that the popularity of means to bypass blocking in Russia has declined and expressed confidence that VPNs in Russia “are not yet taking root.”
