I think you already heard that Nintendo blocked Dolphin Emulator on Steam, allegedly because of the DMCA, but as it turns out, that’s not the whole story. According to The Verge, which was provided by the Dolphin development team, Valve helped Nintendo bring the Wii and GameCube emulator to Steam and unilaterally blocked it, preventing the Dolphon developers from even having a chance to defend themselves.

Valve itself does not deny this: “Given that Nintendo has previously taken action against some emulators, we drew attention to this in advance after the Dolphin team announced that it would soon appear on Steam,” Valve representative Casi Aitchison Boyle tells The Verge (Kaci Aitchison Boyle).

Also, copies of e-mails from Nintendo’s lawyers to Valve have recently surfaced, where the Japanese company makes the usual “DCMA takedown request”, which is why Valve didn’t give Dolphin a chance to defend itself.

In general, the situation looks somewhat strange and confusing, but Dolphin fans have nothing to lose heart – the emulator is still available on the official website of the developers.
