Not only because of its library, but also because of its competitive price. I tell you the details of why I prefer Amazon Music.

Why Amazon Music is my favorite app to listen to music. I tell you my opinion

Streaming music apps have gone from being great unknowns to being the favorite option of people to listen to our favorite artists. The large catalog, the versatility or the compatibility are great factors for which we opted to use this type of application.

But there is one that I can say first hand, after using many applications over the years, which has ended up being my undisputed favorite. This application is Amazon Music and I am going to tell you why it is my favorite application to listen to music.

Amazon Music bets on high quality music

I will not hide it… I’m a music lover, or as the Spanish dictionary says, “person who feels passion and enthusiasm for music.” This enthusiasm and this passion means that for me, consuming music is not ephemeral, it is not brief and it is not linked to having cheap accessories. In my case, the higher the playback quality, the greater the satisfaction when listening to the music.

Therefore, I enjoy music from a FiiO Android DAC/music player. This device is capable of playing music files up to 192 kHz/24 bit. I also connect my headphones by cable to have the best possible experience listening to music at home.

In this sense, Amazon Music is one of the applications that is committed to high quality music. Although it is true that Qobuz usually has better quality on some titles, Amazon Music has a larger catalog of music that I can enjoy. Alternatives like Spotify are out (after trying it for years and waiting years for Hi-Fi to arrive).

Trying other applications such as Tidal or Deezer, which do not do their job badly, they either fail in the offered catalog or in the maximum quality that I can enjoy the music.

The interface has improved over time

I could say that Amazon Music does not have the best of interfaces or the most family friendly, but after a year with the application I have memorized it perfectly. Includes song lyrics so many times I sit in front of the player or the computer and let myself be carried away by the music while I read the other of the song in question since I listen to 90% of music in English or other languages.

Still not having the best interface to my liking, has easy-to-recognize sections like Home, where you find your music, find to have different lists depending on the mood or what you want to play; Library to be able to see your playlists or list summaries or Alexa. This last section allows you to easily find songs by voice.

Amazon Music lowered the subscription price to compete

At the time, if you wanted to have the Ultra HD version of Amazon Music, you had to pay more money. Thanks to the competition, Amazon lowered the price of the subscription to the €9.99making it have the same price as other subscriptions with all the advantages from which it started.

Services like Tidal or Qobuz they’re more expensive in this sense if we want to have the highest quality. Besides, the song library is not that extensive nor are the apps available for most devices.

Some slaps on the ear for Amazon Music

I can say that Amazon Music meets my needs but I have to mention that, after trying several services, I can conclude in several aspects that they are also, in my opinion, areas to improve.

The algorithm is not as good as Spotify but better than other platforms

I have thoroughly tested various services and can come to the conclusion that Spotify has best recommendation algorithm music apps. Amazon Music in this case, remains in my point of view in second place, since it recommends good songs but for example I remember the time of Spotify for having made me find some of my current favorite groups.

From my opinion, Spotify was sharing songs you liked but, sometimes, took a little more risk in recommendations making you discover music you didn’t think you could discover. Amazon, for its part, usually recommends songs but they are usually mostly good, but it tends not to stand out much from the likes. Tidal or Deezer lag behind from my point of view in this sense, since they often failed songs directly and almost always recommended the same ones.

We don’t have a native Linux app or a native app for Mac M1 and M2 processors.

If I liked Spotify for something in particular, it was because of its wide compatibility. I have used various Linux distributions for years and Spotify was always available to install on all of them.

The problem came with Amazon Music. While it is true that it has compatibility with the main operating systems, namely Windows and Mac, we do not have a native application for Linux or Mac with M1 processor. Having a MacBook Air M1, the Amazon Music application consumes much more battery than it should if there was a native one. I am not the only one who has complained about this to Amazon.

Why I prefer Amazon Music over other music apps

All in all, I went with Amazon Music for its vast library of titles at minimal CD quality, its lower price for Hi-Fi than its competitors, and its versatility. The truth is that I can hear the most songs of my favorite artists without any problem. Some groups like All Time Low couldn’t listen to them on Deezer for example.

Maybe at some point Spotify improves its quality I decided to go back to Spotify but, until that moment arrives (which seems a long way off), I will continue using Amazon Music as my favorite application to listen to music.
