Chinese hyperloop to connect Hangzhou and Shanghai - 150 km route takes 15 minutes

The route between Hangzhou and Shanghai won the design competition for the first line of the Chinese version of the hyperloop. The length of the route in the pipe will be 150 km.

What is known

China is testing underground tunnels at full speed, but so far the country does not have a full-fledged technology for creating a route in a low-pressure pipe. Despite this, Chinese experts believe that in 15 years a wide network of underground tunnels will operate in China.

The Shanghai-Hangzhou route competed with three more projects: Beijing-Shijiazhuang, Chengdu-Chongqing and Guangzhou-Shenzhen. The line between Shanghai and Hangzhou was able to win due to the relatively flat terrain. Due to its high population density, it is expected to have great economic potential.

The launch of China’s first hyperloop is expected in 2035. The train will move at speeds up to 1000 km/h. The trip along the 150 km route will take 15 minutes. It takes a typical train 1 hour to get from one station to another.
