The European holding KMW + Nexter Defense Systems (KNDS) wants to expand the range of ammunition compatible with the Euro-PULS multiple launch rocket system. If the decision is agreed upon, then the “German HIMARS” will be able to launch missiles with a launch range of up to 500 km and even kamikaze drones.

What is known

Euro-PULS is a joint product of the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and the Israeli Elbit Systems. It will be based on the Precise and Universal Launching System (PULS). The chassis will be Iveco Trakker 8×8.

KMW and Elbit brought their development to Munich, Bavaria, to the Defense iQ Future Artillery conference. At the same time, the newspaper Bild statedthat the German government is considering purchasing Euro-PULS to replace the MARS II.

At the same time, KNDS made an interesting proposal to expand the range of ammunition for Euro-PULS. In particular, add the ability to launch Naval Strike Missile (NSM) missiles in modifications with a range of up to 250 km.

In addition, the Euro-PULS system can be armed with the Joint Fire Support Missile (JFS-M). The missile is being developed by MBDA Deutschland. A full-size prototype was presented at the Future Artillery 2023 exhibition. The JFS-M launch range will be 500 km. The missile will be compatible with MARS II (pictured below).

In addition to NSM and JFS-M, KNDS proposes to use GMLRS-ER rockets, which are capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 150 km. Lockheed Martin is completing testing of a new precision-guided munition this year. Also, the Euro-PULS arsenal can include Diehl AT2 / AT3 anti-tank mines and SkyStriker kamikaze drones with a range of up to 70 km.
