Japan is actively working to strengthen its own missile potential. The Department of Defense recently awarded a contract to Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) to develop an anti-ship missile.

What is known

The deal amounted to $243 million. The new contract became part of a large project in which the Land of the Rising Sun will invest $2.3 billion. It will last from 2023 to 2027.

Kawasaki has been working on an anti-ship missile for five years now. It is in the research and development phase. This was stated by the representative of the Japanese company Satoshi Hamada (Satoshi Hamada).

According to him, the concept of an anti-ship missile has already been proposed to the Japanese Ministry of Defense. Kawasaki will be ready to move into production as soon as it receives a decision from the government.

The ammunition will be equipped with a Kawasaki KJ300 engine. The maximum launch range will be 1000 km, and the speed will be less than 343 m/s. It is also known that the missile will use stealth technology to increase stealth.
