Against the background of the war in Ukraine last year, France began to show interest in loitering ammunition. Last week, Nexter received a contract to develop a kamikaze drone.

What is known

The French Defense Innovation Agency, which is an analogue of the American DARPA, has signed a contract with Nexter to create a medium-range remote guided munition.

Drone-kamikaze will be equipped with anti-tank ammunition. The development will take place as part of the Larinae program, which translates from Latin as “The Seagull”. The project was launched in May and will run until the end of 2024.

Loitering ammunition will receive GPS and a camera. The flight range will be up to 80 km, and the flight time will be 3 hours. Nexter has not yet disclosed the cost of the project.
