Twitch on the verge of blocking: Roskomnadzor is considering the possibility of a complete or partial blocking of the service

Roskomnadzor allowed the blocking of Twitch in Russia.

In Roskomnadzor consider the possibility of full or partial blocking of the Twitch streaming service in Russia. This was announced by the head of the Department for Control and Supervision in the Sphere of Electronic Communications of Roskomnadzor Evgeny Zaitsev. At the same time, he noted the need to approach the decision in a balanced way and assess the risks for Russian bloggers using the platform.

Zaitsev also recalled that Twitch had already been brought to administrative responsibility for not removing illegal content in the amount of about 21 million rubles. In April 2022, the service blocked a number of accounts after accusations of spreading pro-Russian “propaganda”.

Previously Anton Gorelkin, deputy chairman of the State Duma committee on information policy, said that Twitch has long deserved to block or slow down traffic in Russia due to constant violations of the law. According to the deputy, casinos and drugs are advertised on the platform, and the armed forces of the Russian Federation are also being discredited. There are good substitutes for the product, Russian and Chinese, that comply with the law.

Twitch, a subsidiary of Amazon, is known as a live streaming platform for gamers to play popular games and interact with viewers.

How note experts, the opportunities for advertising on Twitch are very wide, and some bloggers can earn up to several million rubles a month. Nevertheless, if Twitch is still banned in Russia, then bloggers will inevitably lose part of the audience, as it has already happened with other social networks. But in the case of a streaming service, finding a replacement platform will be more difficult than with instant messengers.
