The US Army wanted to get a laser weapon that would be equipped with Stryker wheeled armored personnel carriers. The Kord Technologies Inc. team was chosen to implement the project. with an office in Huntsville, Alabama.

What is known

The Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO) recently announced a potential $158.1 million contract with Kord. The final result of the agreement will be the development of the Directed Energy Maneuver Short Range Air Defense (DE M-SHORAD) .

In simple terms, DE M-SHORAD is a mobile laser weapon that acts as an air defense system. The laser has a power of 50 W and is designed to intercept missiles, aircraft, helicopters, and drones.

Kord will simplify the maintenance of the system and reduce the weight of the laser system so that it does not overload the Stryker. By the end of this year, the company will create up to four DE M-SHORAD prototypes ready for delivery. Four more prototypes will appear next year.
