In 2020, astronomers managed to detect the planet TOI-1338b, which revolves around two stars, as Tatooine does in the universe of George Lucas. Scientists recently discovered another planet in the same star system. It’s called BEBOP-1c.

What is known

To begin with, we note that the system in which the planets revolve around two stars is called circumbinary. At the moment, scientists are aware of only 12 such systems, but only two of them have more than one planet.

TOI-1338b was discovered while passing through the brighter of the two stars. Next, scientists tried to determine the mass of the planet using the radial velocity method. They failed to do so, but they were able to locate BEBOP-1c.

The second planet has an orbital period of 215 days. Astronomers also found that it is 65 times more massive than Earth. The space body was named after the Binaries Escorted By Orbiting Planets (BEBOP) project, aimed at collecting astronomical data.
