The Netherlands did not send CH-47D Chinook helicopters to Ukraine, but sold them to a private American company Billings Flying Services

In March, it became known that the Netherlands could transfer CH-47D Chinook helicopters to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The second option involved selling them to an American company. In the end, he was chosen.

What is known

The Royal Netherlands Air Force has announced the sale of six CH-47D Chinook helicopters. The buyer is Billings Flying Services, a private US company headquartered in Billings, Montana.

The Ministry of Defense of a European country decided to update the helicopter fleet as part of the Chinook Vervanging & Modernisering project. The CH-47D Chinook will be replaced by the CH-47F. The Netherlands has ordered 26 helicopters, the first of which was delivered in mid-spring 2021.

After the arrival of the CH-47F, the Netherlands began to get rid of old helicopters. The Royal Air Force previously sold four CH-47Ds to Coulson Aviation Fire Company of Portland, Oregon. Some of the helicopters that cannot be sold will be used for exercises and training.

Sold Chinook will be used for firefighting, transportation of goods and relief in disaster areas. Billings Flying Services currently operates eight CH-47D helicopters purchased from the US Army.
