AI could put millions of programmers out of work in India

The CEO of Stability AI, Emad Mostak, warned of massive job losses among outsourced programmers in India in the next year or two.

Because of the impact of artificial intelligence (AI), many software development tasks can now be done with far fewer people, Mostak said. In particular, this applies to work that can be done at the computer alone.

“In India, outsourced coders up to level three will disappear within a year or two,” the CEO said.

This does not mean that all sectors or countries will experience the same changes. Countries with stronger labor laws, such as France, are less affected.

India employs over 5 million programmers and it is their jobs that are most vulnerable to cutting edge AI tools such as ChatGPT, according to Bloomberg report .

Mostak previously stated that in five years “there will be no programmers in the traditional sense”. He clarified that this means a reduction in classical programming, but the question arises as to whether people will be required for other things. “All areas are subject to change in different ways,” Mostak stressed.
