All for the sake of quality: Remedy has made a final decision - Alan Wake 2 will not be released on discs

After it became known that Remedy plans to release Alan Wake 2 only in digital format, the publisher THQ Nordic offered its services for the production of a physical edition of horror.

What is known

Recall that it was THQ Nordic that released discs with the PC version of the first part of Alan Wake.

In an interview Portal Eurogamer creative director Remedy Sam Lake (Sam Lake) and the director of the new part of Kyle Rowley (Kyle Rowley) reported that they still will not release their game on discs.

As a main argument, the developers explained that in this way they will be able to devote more time to the quality of the game, and not rush to produce discs.

In addition, game designers do not consider the modern practice of selling non-working games on discs that require an additional download of the first day patch to be correct. The Finnish studio promises that Alan Wake 2 will work fine without the Day 1 patch (but it will be released).

Going digital gives us, as developers, more time to polish the game. Because otherwise the game that comes on the disc should play without a patch. We didn’t want to release something we weren’t proud of, and we didn’t want players to be upset. Therefore, we hope that in this way we can provide you with the best version of the game.

Considerable value for Remedy is also the cost of the game. The release of physical editions would make it more expensive, and all versions.

Remedy and Epic Games weighed the pros and cons and made a decision: Alan Wake 2 will not be on discs.

When to expect

Alan Wake II will release on October 17 on PC (Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
