Belarus to equip Polonaise multiple launch rocket system with Russian nuclear-tipped missiles

Belarusian multiple launch rocket systems “Polonaise” can receive tactical Russian missiles equipped with nuclear warheads. This was stated by the self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko.

What is known

Lukashenka gave an interview to propagandists from Russia in connection with an agreement on the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus. He said he wanted to “shove” nuclear weapons into the Polonaise multiple launch rocket systems. Lukashenka also added that the power of one warhead is three times higher than that of the bomb that the United States dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.

Polonaise is a Belarusian multiple launch rocket system, work on which began about 10 years ago at the Precise Electromechanics Plant. The debut of the system took place in 2015, and in 2016 it was put into service.

Now the Polonaise is using the A200 and A300 missiles. They are developed by the Chinese company China Academy of Vehicle Technology. The missiles have a satellite guidance system, and the warhead is detached after the fuel has been exhausted. These are two key differences from rockets for the Smerch system.

The maximum range of the A200 and A300 is approximately 200 km and 300 km respectively. Both missiles are equipped with a warhead weighing 140 kg. The declared flight speed can reach 1600 m / s, but when the distance to the target is reduced to 20 km, the warhead dives at an angle of 80 degrees, and the speed drops to 700 m / s.

Approximately 5 years ago, at the MILEX-2017 exhibition, along with the Polonaise multiple launch rocket system, the Chinese M20 ballistic missile was demonstrated (pictured below). It has a warhead weighing up to 500 kg and can hit targets at a distance of up to 290 km.

The launcher is located on the MZKT-7930 chassis. The 8×8 truck has a maximum range of 1,000 km and is capable of speeds up to 70 km/h on the highway.
