Browser security tests to check if your browser is safe

-

There are several things that make up a browser. It’s not just about surfing the internet, it’s also about safe surfing. Security is one of the most important aspects of any browser, and you need to know if your browser provides enough protection. There are many aspects of browsing that you need to be aware of and that your browser does not compromise security by allowing you to surf the Internet.

Is my browser safe?

If you’re wondering if your browser is safe, here are some websites designed to test browsers. You can simply visit these websites and see what level of security your browser is at. Some of these websites allow you to share and thus compare data collected by running tests on two or more browsers.

  1. BrowserScope
  2. BrowserSpy
  3. PCFlank
  4. Qualys BrowserCheck
  5. Panopticon.

Let’s take a look at these browser security tests.

1]Browser area

Browserscope.org is a website that offers a series of tests to determine the security of your browser. In addition to security, it also contains a number of tests to let you know how it works with scripts, etc. The names of the tests are listed on the top tab.

Click “About” under each test to see the number of tests and what the tests do. Click “Results” to view the results of previous tests conducted by other users. Click “Tests” to run the tests in your browser. You can share the test results with others by selecting “Share” on the Tests page.

2]Browser spy

When you browse the Internet, your browser leaves digital footprints. This allows other websites to collect information about you. This includes the applications installed on your computer and your online activities.

To find out what information your browser shares with other websites, log in – using your browser – to browserspy.dk. More than 64 tests are available to find out all the information your browser shares with the websites you visit.

3]PCFlank

PCFlank.com offers a range of tests that allow you to test your computer’s firewall, browser, and more. Since we are talking about browsers in this article, PCFlank does a good job of figuring out all the information your browser is passing along to the websites you visit. If any vulnerability is found, PCFlank will recommend steps to fix the issue(s).

4]Qualys Browser Check

BrowserCheck shows the browser you are using and offers two options: 1) run a quick scan or 2) install a plug-in to see if the browser has any security issues. In my case, I found three issues when running a test with Google Chrome 18.0.1025.162. Look at the image to see the issues and recommendations I got from BrowserCheck.

5]Panopticon

Panopticon is another website that will check if your browser configuration is unique and then give you a uniqueness score. The rarer or more unique your browser configuration, the less other websites will be able to track you, even if you limit or disable cookies. You can read about browser fingerprinting here.

I know several websites that answer the question: is my browser safe? If you know of any other website or have a favorite, please share with us – and yes, let us know how your browser works!

Now take a look at some of these tips to better protect your browsers.
