Run the Printer Troubleshooter

  • Go to the Windows Settings.
  • Click on System > Troubleshoot.
  • Click on Other troubleshooters.
  • Click on the Run button to run the Printer troubleshooter under the Most frequent section.

2] Clear Print Queue

There is the possibility that previous print files are stopping new files in the print queue. If this is the case, clearing the Print queue can help to fix this issue. To do so, follow the steps provided below:

Go to the Services Manager. Locate the Print Spooler service, right-click on it, and select Stop. After stopping the Print Spooler Service in the Services Manager, open the File Explorer and go to the following location:

C:\Windows\System32\spool

Empty PRINTERS folder

You will find the PRINTERS folder. Open it and delete all the files inside it. Do not delete the PRINTERS folder.

Start Print Spooler service

Once you delete the files inside the PRINTERS folder successfully, start the Print Spooler service. Open the Services app and locate the Print Spooler. Right-click on it and click on Start.

3] Try a different USB cable

If you’re using a wired Canon printer, we suggest you try a different USB port to connect your printer to your Windows PC. A loose or faulty USB cable or port can cause this issue. Try using a different USB cable and check if the issue gets fixed.

4] Remove and add your printer again

We can also suggest you remove and add your printer again to your Windows PC. Check the following steps to remove and add your printer:

Remove and add your printer again

  • Go to the Windows Settings.
  • Click on Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Click on your Printer.
  • Click on the Remove button.

To add your printer again, follow the instructions provided below:

Add your printer again

  • Go to the Windows Settings.
  • Click on Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Click on the Add device button.

Once you add your printer again, then check if you can print this time.

5] Update your Printer driver

Sometimes this issue can be caused by a corrupted or outdated printer driver. Make sure your printer driver is up to date. You can download your printer driver from the manufacturer’s website of your printer. Once you download the latest printer driver, install it, and check if the issue gets fixed or not.

Before you install the latest version of your printer driver, it is important to uninstall or remove the existing printer driver from your system. The following steps will guide you on this:

  1. Open the Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Print queues branch.
  3. Right-click on your printer driver and select Uninstall device.

Now, run the installer file to install the printer driver on your system.

6] Check for paper jam

Check for paper jam

Paper jams are the most common reason for printing issues. A piece of paper may be stuck in the printer’s paper tray or roller. Make sure there is no paper jam in your printer.

To do so, turn off your printer, remove the paper tray, and look inside the printer to see if the paper is stuck there. In addition to the paper tray, open your printer from the back side (if applicable) and look for the paper jam.

If you see a piece of paper stuck in the printer, gently pull it out of the printer. Once you successfully remove the paper from the printer, the printing problem should be fixed. If you are not comfortable cleaning your printer, then you can get help from a professional.

7] Contact Canon support
