China Against the Digital Iron Curtain and for an Open Internet

The Chinese politician believes that the BRICS countries will be able to maintain the fairness of the Internet.

Wang Yi, Director of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, declared on the need to maintain the principle of openness on the Internet, rejecting the idea of ​​​​turning the network into a “new battlefield” for the digital iron curtain. His comments were made during a meeting held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Wang Yi stressed that China is against any form of technological or cyber hegemony and called for strengthening communications and identifying areas of cooperation between the BRICS countries. He also emphasized that cyberspace should be fair, open, secure and dynamic, and expressed China’s willingness to promote global Internet governance.

The meeting recognized that network security is an increasingly pressing issue and the international community must work together to bridge the digital divide and increase the participation of developing countries in global network governance.

As a result of the meeting, it was agreed that the BRICS countries and their partners should cooperate in creating an enabling, inclusive and secure cyberspace that will contribute to the development of all.
