Fix Copilot not working in Windows 11

If Copilot is not working on your computer, follow the solutions mentioned below to resolve the issue.

  1. Update Windows if Copilot is not showing up
  2. Check your Internet Connection
  3. Enable Copilot using the Registry Editor
  4. Shutdown your computer and then restart
  5. Run the Copilot command

Let us talk about them in detail.

1] Update Windows if Copilot is not showing up

As mentioned earlier, Copilot is available in Windows version KB5031455 for version 22H2 and version 23H2. If you are unable to see Copilot in Settings > Personalization> Taskbar, go to Windows Update and install the latest version of the operating system. Once you update your computer, go to the same section in Windows Settings again and check if the issue is resolved.

2] Check your Internet connection

internet speed test

If you cannot connect to Copilot, we need to look at your bandwidth. For that, we can use a free Internet Speed tester. If the bandwidth is low, we need to reboot the router and if that doesn’t work, contact the ISP and ask them to resolve the issue.

3] Enable Copilot using the Registry Editor

In some cases, Copilot fails to get enabled from the aforementioned method. We need to enable it using the Registry Editor. It is a centralized system that lets you tune your computer. However, before we do that let us take a backup of the registry that can be used if something goes wrong. To do the same, follow the steps mentioned below.

  1. Open Registry Editor by searching it out from the Start Menu.
  2. Go to the location mentioned below.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
  3. Right-click on Windows, go to New > Key, and name the newly created key WindowsCopilot.
  4. You then have to right-click on WindowsCopilot and select New > DWORD (32-bit).
  5. Name the newly created value TurnOffWindowsCopilotdouble-click on it, and enter ‘0‘ in the Set Value option.

Finally, check if the issue is resolved.

4] Shutdown your computer and then restart

Shutdown options in Windows 10

If, after making the changes to the registry editor, as mentioned earlier, the Copilot icon is still not there in your taskbar, we need to shut down your system and then start it again completely. For that, open Terminal as an administrator and then run shutdown /s /t 0. This will shut your system down. Now, reboot your computer and check if the issue is resolved.

5] Run the Copilot command

An alternative way to activate Copilot is by running a specific command. However, it’s important to note that this method only turns on the tool and doesn’t restore the Copilot icon. So, if you want to use Copilot again, you will have to execute the command each time. Launch Run and run the command mentioned below.

microsoft-edge://?ux=copilot&tcp=1&source=taskbar

Hopefully, this will do the job for you.

We hope that you can resolve the issue using the solutions mentioned earlier.
