Airbus Defense has begun construction of the fourth-generation Eurofighter Typhoon for the German Air Force. Production and deliveries will be delayed until the end of the decade.

What is known

Germany ordered 30 single-seat and eight two-seat fighters. They will have updated software, an improved protection system, conformal fuel tanks and an active phased array radar.

The contract was signed in mid-autumn 2020. The amount of the agreement was €5.4 billion (~$6 billion). Airbus Defense has begun manufacturing aircraft at a facility in Bavaria. The German Air Force will receive all ordered fighters until 2030.

Germany buys upgraded Eurofighter Typhoon to replace older aircraft. We are talking about the Eurofighter Typhoon Block 5 fighters, which were adopted by the German Air Force in the early 2000s.
