Microsoft announced that soon Windows 11 will receive native support for the RAR format and a bunch of other archive formats that users of the operating system have been waiting for literally decades:
“We have added native support for additional archive formats including tar, 7-zip, rar, gz and many more using the libarchive open source project, – tells Windows Supervisor Panos Panay – you can now get improved performance of the archive functionality during compression in Windows”.
According to the company, format support will appear in a new build of the system, which is still in development, later this week.
