The plugin that we are going to use is called BIMP which stands for Batch Image Manipulation Plugin. It is designed to be used with GIMP to perform image editing tasks on multiple images at once. Here are the main steps to bulk crop images in GIMP using BIMP:

  • Download and install GIMP.
  • Download and install BIMP.
  • Launch GIMP.
  • Click on the File > Batch Image Manipulation option.
  • Add source images.
  • Select the Crop task.
  • Enter crop method and dimensions.
  • Press the Apply button.

Firstly, if you don’t have GIMP installed on your computer, download and install it right away to use this method. Then, download the BIMP plugin from the alessandrofrancesconi.it website. Once downloaded, double-click on the setup file to install and configure the BIMP plugin. In case it fails to detect GIMP’s installation path, you will be required to manually provide the path.

When the plugin is set up, launch the GIMP software and go to the File menu.

Now, you will see a newly added option called Batch Image Manipulation; just tap on this option.

Next, in the appeared Batch Image Manipulation Plugin dialog window, click on the Add images button to browse and import the source images or folder to crop them.

After that, press the Add button present under the Manipulation set option and select the Crop task.

Now, a new dialog box will open up where you can customize the crop properties. You can select a standard aspect ratio to crop your images, such as 1:1, 3:2, 4:3, 16:9, 16:10, 7:9, custom ratio, etc. It also lets you manually crop images by entering width and height and specifying the position to start cropping from.

When you are done customizing crop properties, press the OK button and then click on the Output folder button to provide the location of the resulting cropped images.

Finally, click on the Apply button to start batch cropping images. You will get the output images within a few seconds. It works fast.

2] Use these free dedicated desktop software to batch crop images

Another method to bulk crop your images is to use a dedicated desktop application. There are multiple free bulk crop image software that you can install and use on your Windows PC. Here are some good ones:

JPEGCrops is a nice free software that allows you to bulk crop images. As the name suggests, this software can only be used for cropping JPEG images with .jpg and .jpeg file extensions.

First, click on the Open Images button, and browse and import multiple JPEG images to this application. As you do that, it will open and display all images vertically.

You can now manually crop each image by dragging the edges as per your requirements. Or, you can choose one of the standard dimensions provided in it. To check the preview of the cropped image, you can click on the Crop button. It also offers a handy option to change the aspect orientation between landscape and portrait.

Another good software to bulk crop your images is ImageConverter. It contains a set of multiple image editing tools one of which includes an image cropping tool. You can use it to crop multiple images at once. However, in the free version of this software, only 3 images can be processed at a time.

To start with, you can open the main GUI of this software and then press the Open folder button to select the source image folder. It supports a variety of image formats including BMP, PNG, JPG, ICO, CUR, PSD, DDS, TGA, and more.

When the images are selected, click on the Cut Image to Size checkbox from the right-side panel. And then, click on the Options button present next to it. After that, you can choose the number of pixels to cut from the four sides of the images including left, right, above, and below. It also lets you preview the output image
