Lockbit hackers stole 3,000 unique SpaceX blueprints and promise to publish if they don't get a ransom

Lockbit hackers claim to have stolen 3,000 unique SpaceX blueprints. This is reported by The Register.

What is known

The hacker group said that the unique blueprints created by Elon Musk’s aerospace engineers came from a hack into Maximum Industries, one of SpaceX’s contractors. Cybercriminals believe they can quickly find a buyer.

Despite the burglars’ confidence, Maximum Industries has no plans to pay the ransom yet. Representatives of Lockbit themselves write about this. They have given the company until March 20, 2023 and threaten to release the blueprints otherwise.

The Register has contacted Maximum Industries and SpaceX but has not yet received a comment. At the same time, the publication notes that the stolen data may not be of value, since even with the documents, the buyer must still make the parts and use them without arousing suspicion.

But the very fact of the leak could create trouble for SpaceX. Elon Musk’s company provides services to the US government. In this regard, there is a high probability that security problems will attract the attention of the authorities.
