MQ-1C Gray Eagle learned how to launch innovative Eaglet drones for reconnaissance, communications and data transmission

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems has tested an innovative Eaglet unmanned aerial vehicle. To launch it, a larger drone is used.

What is known

As often happens, we learn about such tests long after they are carried out. In our case, the tests took place in December 2022. The Eaglet unmanned aerial vehicle is being developed by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems with money from the Air and Missile Center and the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Research Laboratory.

The Eaglet is an ALE (Air-Launched Effect) airborne drone. During the December test, an MQ-1C Gray Eagle aircraft from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems was used to launch.

The US Army plans to further conduct a series of tests to determine the potential of the UAV. The Eaglet will launch not only the MQ-1C Gray Eagle, but also other aircraft, including manned helicopters and aircraft.

The Eaglet is expected to be able to provide extended range and longer missions while improving the survivability of manned aircraft. The drone can be equipped with different types of payloads for reconnaissance, communication and data transmission.
