The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has published another video dedicated to supermassive black holes. A new video shows the size of black holes in comparison with the Sun and the entire solar system.

What is known

The first to appear was a supermassive black hole from the galaxy J1601+3113. It has a mass of approximately 100,000 solar masses. The radius of the event horizon is comparable to the radius of the Sun, although due to the shadow, the black hole looks twice the size of our star.


Next comes a black hole from the Circulus galaxy with a mass of 4 million Suns. It has a size (taking into account the shadow) comparable to the radius of Mercury’s orbit. But the black hole in the M32 galaxy is almost half as massive (2.5 million solar masses), but looks larger because of its shadow.

In the Milky Way, of course, there is a black hole. It is called Sagittarius A* (Sagittarius A*). It is 4.3 million times more massive than the Sun. Then the video shows black gifts from the galaxy NGC 7727. They have a mass of 6.3 million and 154 million solar masses, and when they become one object.

The video also showed a supermassive black hole in the M87 galaxy. It is 5.7 billion times more massive than the Sun. By the way, it was her image that was obtained in 2017. The picture was published two years later.


Finally, the largest supermassive black hole is called TON-618. Its mass is 66 billion times the mass of the Sun. It is located 10 billion light years from us. Interestingly, the theory suggests that a black hole can be as massive as the Sun by a maximum of about 50 billion times. But TON-618 has its own opinion on this matter.
