Krafton announced the acquisition of Unknown Worlds. The studio created Subnautica and its sequel, Subnautica: below Zero. Krafton is best known for PUBG as well as the upcoming The Callisto Protocol.

“Unknown Worlds are incredibly experienced and passionate developers with an unparalleled gift for creativity and a proven track record of building successful player-driven worlds,” Krafton CEO wrote in a statement. “Krafton will spare no effort to help them. They not only broaden our opportunities for development, but also share the goal of creating a unique experience for a global audience. “

Unknown Worlds will continue to operate independently as long as it is operated by Krafton. AND Subnautica, and Subnautica: below Zero will continue to receive updates. Additionally, Unknown Worlds is currently working on a new project that is slated to launch into Early Access sometime in early 2022.

“It was immediately apparent how closely Unknown Worlds and Krafton are linked in the way we think about games and game development,” Unknown World CEO Charlie Cleveland wrote in a statement. “Subnautica and PUBG started off humbly and developed successfully through constant iteration and feedback. We want to bring new games to the global stage – and with Krafton we are taking a big step forward. We are sincerely looking to the future together. ”

Unknown Worlds released Subnautica: below Zero earlier this year, in May, after having been in Early Access since 2019. Krafton’s Callisto Protcol, led by Striking Distance Studios, is slated to launch in 2022.
