Company Qualcomm, a manufacturer of chips for mobile devices, plans to develop V2X (vehicle-to-anything) technology, which will allow cars to communicate with each other and with the environment. To do this, the company acquired the Israeli startup Autotalks, which specializes in the development of V2X communications.

V2X technology involves the transmission of real-time data on traffic, road hazards, vehicle decisions, driving directions and other parameters. This should help to improve the safety and optimality of the movement of cars. In addition, V2X communications can reduce the likelihood of collisions between compatible vehicles.

The amount and terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition still needs to be reviewed by regulators. Qualcomm intends to integrate V2X technology into its Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform and claims that has several interested customers – including American General Motors and French Renault. Both companies own multiple brands of vehicles, so Qualcomm has a chance to bring the technology to many cars and trucks around the world.

Qualcomm’s automotive chip business is one of the largest, generating about $1.4 billion a year. However, the company faces stiff competition from Nvidia And Intel Mobileye, which are also actively developing among car manufacturers and unmanned taxi services.
