Russian security forces arrested three Russian scientists who were developing hypersonic weapons. All of them are accused of treason.
What is known
This week, employees of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the S.A. Khristianovich of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences published an open letter. In it, they call for “protecting Russian aerodynamic science” and “saving what was created by decades of selfless labor of Soviet and Russian scientists, engineers, workers, from the impending collapse.”

As it became known, the Russian security forces arrested three aerodynamic scientists. They turned out to be Anatoly Maslov, Alexander Shiplyuk and Valery Zvegintsev (in the same order, not the photos above). All of them are charged with article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Treason”, the maximum punishment for which is life imprisonment.
Alexander Shiplyuk was taken to the pre-trial detention center at the end of the summer of 2022, following Anatoly Maslov. The latter is suspected of transferring Russian hypersonic technologies to China. Both scientists have been working on hypersonic missiles for more than a decade. As for Valery Zvegintsev, he has been under house arrest since the beginning of April 2023.
