Samsung introduced a secure fingerprint scanner for bank (and not only) cards

Samsung introduced a microchip for the implementation of a fingerprint scanner in banking and other cards.

What it is?

More precisely, it is a security chip called S3B512C, which combines fingerprint sensor, Secure Element (SE) chip for protection against unauthorized access and Secure Processor for analysis and data processing. Samsung’s proprietary fingerprint authentication algorithm and protection technology spoofing (data falsification or, more simply, fake prints).

V The companies note that the S3B512C will help card manufacturers reduce the number of chips needed.

«S3B512C combines fingerprint sensor, Secure Element (SE) and Secure Processor, adding an extra layer of authentication and security in payment cards. S3B512C in primarily intended for payment cards, but can also be used in cards that require highly secure authentication, such as student or employee identification, membership or access to building», says in message.

The chip has been certified by EMVCo and Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (CC EAL) 6+ и works in According to the latest Mastercard Biometric Evaluation Plan Summary (BEPS) specifications.

When on the first cards will appear on the market with such sensors not yet known.
