Six Treasurers Demand Significant Changes From Activision Blizzard

Treasurers from several US states are using their investment in Activision Blizzard to pressure the company to take additional steps to address misconduct and harassment.

Six government treasurers have called on Activision Blizzard to make significant changes following numerous reports of sexual harassment, discrimination and other workplace issues. Treasurers from California, Massachusetts, Illinois, Oregon, Delaware and Nevada have sent a letter requesting a meeting with Activision Blizzard’s board of directors, Axios reports.

Treasurers want to discuss Activision Blizzard’s response to lawsuits and reports, in addition to the investment risk these issues pose. Treasurers also said they would consider voting against the re-election of the current board members.

“We are concerned that the current CEO and board members have neither the skills nor the conviction to bring about these radical changes needed to transform their culture, restore the trust of employees, shareholders and their partners,” said the Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs.

State treasurers are responsible for investing large sums of money for the states, but it is currently unknown how many Activision Blizzard shares are owned by the states, which is directly related to the impact they have on the company. Frerichs said it is getting more public attention and increasing pressure on Activision Blizzard, regardless of the number of shares held by the states.

Treasurers have asked to meet with the board of directors by December 20.
